 Acid etch Definition
 Acid  Etching is the latest production method of manufacturing sign plates. Using  computer cut stencils onto aluminum, brass and various other metals, these are  then ‘dipped’ into acid to create the etching  effect. This Acid Etched manufacturing gives a very accurate and classy finish  that is widely used in the legal and medical professions because of the stylish  look.
 Once  the plates have been etched and filled they can be supplied with a mahogany  backing board for the traditional honorary look, or with holes for fitting  directly onto a wall or with stand-off wall mounts for the more contemporary  style.
 It  is widely used by government agencies, aerospace industries and shipping  companies. The standard surface also has great UV stability lasting 20 years  plus.

Aluminium  has a density of 2.7 g/cm3 and therefore belongs to the light metals. Its  crystal structure is cubic face centred.
 Due  to its high electric conductivity, aluminium is used for conductors in  microelectronics where it is often alloyed with copper in order to prevent  migration.With a standard potential of -1.66 V, aluminium does not belong to  the noble metals.
 Aluminium  etching is highly exothermic, under etching of the resist mask causes local  heating and super-proportional under etching of the mask as a consequence, if  no agitation is performed.
 Strong  H2-bubbling reduces etch homogeneity. Improvements of the etch rate homogeneity  can be achieved if the etching will be interrupted every approx. 30 seconds by  a short dip into DI water. hereby, the H2 bubbles temporarily vanish.
 Generally,  etching starts after the dissolution (by H3PO4) of few Al2O3 film present on  every Al surface. For this reason, the photo-resist processing impacts on the  Al etching: The alkaline developers preferentially dissolve the Al2O3 where the  resist is primarily through developed .
 Dependant  on the extent of (desired or undesired) over-developing as well as delay  between development and Al-etching, the process parameters may lead to a  spatial in homogeneous Al etching start.
